[Anime Review] Sword Art Online

The story of Sword Art Online (TV) follows through the life of a teenage boy who plays a Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) via a gaming system known as "Nerve Gear", a device which takes full control of all five senses of the user.

Not So Humble Beginning

The story of Sword Art Online (TV) begins with the male protagonist, Kirito, who bought a copy of the Sword Art Online game.
He is kind of a cute boy is he not? ^^;

Enter the Game World of Aincrad

Kirito, the male protagonist, puts on the Nerve Gear and enters the game world of Aincrad.
This is kind of a beautiful world is it not? ^^;

Unable to Log Out. Seriously?!

Having played the game for a while, many players realized that they are unable to log out.

The Game Master Appears

Game Masters are usually a ray of light and hope but that is not the case for Sword Art Online. The Game Master appears and makes an announcement that being unable to log out is part of the game features and that it is not a bug at all.

In order to log out or leave the game, players must fight their way to the 100th floor and defeat the final boss.
Also, the respawn system has been disabled which means any death in-game will be equivalent to death in the real world.

Make New Friends

Along the journey in this cruel game of survival, the male protagonist will meet and make new friends.
While not always in breezy and blissful situations, he will also meet enemies who want him dead.

Monster Hunting & Dungeon Raids

Every gamer's wish has been granted, there will be fighting of monsters and dungeon raids!
Afterall, MMORPGs are not all talk and no action.

The Verdict: Is this Anime for you?

In conclusion, Sword Art Online (TV) is a pretty good Anime with a perfect balance of action, social, and psychological situations as well as a good mix of mild comedy, romance, and political suspense.

Good for folks who ..
  • Play and like MMORPG games.
  • Like science fiction and futuristic technologies.
  • Interested in psychological and political conspiracies.
  • Love stories with secret admirers and indirect jealousies.

Bad for folks who ..
  • Never played or liked MMORPG games.
  • Looking for series filled with highly dynamic action scenes with magical powers.
