EOY Cosplay Festival 2013

EOY Cosplay Festival 2013 #EOY2013 is a community Cosplay event which took place on 15 Dec 2013 at the Marina Barrage in Singapore. Many like-minded folks made their way down to the event location to celebrate their passion for Japanese Popular Culture, support their friends, or just simply there to have fun, relax, and embrace the culture!

The Event Location

First of all, a little bit of introduction on the event location and how it is different from any other Exhibition & Convention Centre in the other parts of the city state.

The Marina Barrage is a dam built at the southern tip of the Singapore main island which keeps seawater out while serving as a reservoir of clean water for the city state.

Even though it is a machinery of the modern world, it is also designed and built as a recreational place for folks from all walks of life to hang out with their family and friends over a picnic basket.

The interior of the Marina Barrage is a humongous and wide open recreational space, with the ability to host a multitude of events and activities which many of the Exhibition & Convention Centres in the other parts of the city could not offer.

There is also a sheltered space for activities that need cover from the blazing sun or drenching rain which also serves as an ideal location for merchants to set-up their booths and offer their goods.

The Itasha Display

Itasha (literally painful car in Japanese) is a car decorated with prints of Anime characters or any other creative works.

These decorated cars are rare sightings on the streets of Singapore while I do hope to see more of these decorated cars in the future to come as I continue to work hard introducing and promoting Japanese Popular Culture. ^^;

The Wacom Booth

Wacom is a well-known consumer electronics brand which offers computer drawing tablets for folks who do professional creative works on their computers which a simple mouse could not.

A Doll Booth was set-up by Fujiwara Yukino with miniature environments for doll owners to display and share their beautiful dolls with the community.

Cosplay @ EOY Cosplay Festival 2013

Photo: Cosplayers & Photographers @ #EOY2013 Marina Barrage

Cosplay continues to remain as a popular hobby among the J-Culture Community in Singapore.
It is a healthy culture of craftsmanship and expression of one's love for creative works.

I would encourage more folks to pick up the hobby of Cosplay as one will be able to learn quite a number of skills from costume tailoring and props crafting to wig trimming and application of face make-up.
