Getting Started with Life Improvement



How are you doing in your life? If your answer is somehow good, would you like to make it better than just good? And if your answer is somehow not so good, would you like to have it changed to at least a good or even better?

We have always been told the same old grandfather and grandmother advices but no matter how hard we try, we are still not getting any closer to what we have always been pursuing, a perfect life, or perhaps a less ambitious one, a peaceful life. What are we doing wrong or missing out?

What is Life Improvement?

While we have been struggling day in and day out, trying to impress people around us, we have always forgotten about the one most important person in our lives, which is ourselves. Yes, I am talking about you, the person whom you get to see in the mirror every morning when you wash your face and brush your teeth.

Life Improvement is about making YOUR life better and much more satisfying for yourself to live through instead of trying to impress that someone else who does not really matter much and does not bring great benefits to your life.

What are the areas for improvement?

While there are more than a hundred and one areas to look at for Life Improvement, I have picked 4 areas which have the greatest impact on the quality of life as well as coupled with the greatest of challenges.

  • Health & Fitness
  • Knowledge & Skills
  • Finance & Wealth
  • Character & Personality

The simpler a challenge is, the less impact there will be. An example of a simple challenge will be minor changes in life such as waking up earlier in the morning or greeting everyone in the neighborhood as you walk past them. These are not going to improve your life at all! Instead, it will make your life worse as people will think you are a weirdo and start avoiding you.

How to get started with Life Improvement?

Before every single one of my readers start to rush headlong with the mindset of 'time to hit the gym!' or 'time to sign up for more supplementary classes!', I would like to share a piece of advice with you folks: Hold your horses comrades!

1. Identify Your Needs, Wants, and Demands
While your mind is clouded with worldly desires, you will not be able to think rationally and objectively enough to improve your life at all. You will need to identify and separate your needs, wants, and demands in life:
  • Get a blank piece of white paper and a pen.
  • Divide the paper into 3 equal columns.
  • Label the columns (1) Needs / (2) Wants / (3) Demands
  • Fill in the columns with the things that you always needed, wanted, and demanded.

2. Analyze Your Needs, Wants, and Demands
When you are done identifying your needs, wants, and demands, the next step is to find out whether they have been written in the correct column and re-locate them where necessary:
  • Needs - What you must have to sustain basic life and body functions.
  • Wants - What is nice to have but unable to afford due to your current situation.
  • Demands - What you can surely afford but could not get it due to a shortage of availability or restrictions.

3. Pursue Your Passion, Fulfill Your Dreams
There is a popular saying that goes 'The City of Rome is not built in a single day.' and the same principle applies to Life Improvement. One does not simply fulfill their dreams overnight. It is a continuous journey and process, climbing the mountain one step at a time:
  • Research - With the internet right at your fingertips, searching for information about the things that you need, want, and demand has become easier than ever. Find out how to acquire them (without having to break the law or piggy bank).
  • Plan - Having find out and learn more about how to acquire the things that you need, want, and demand, summon all your knowledge, skills, and experience to develop a S.M.A.R.T. plan on how you will go about getting them.
  • Execute - Plans will continue to remain as plans until the day you decided to materialise the plan and take action based on what you have planned. Clear the objectives one step at a time, and you will eventually move closer than ever to your dream destination. It will not happen overnight, but it will arrive some day in the future.

At the end of each day ..

Remember that taking good care of your health and fitness should be the top priority when it comes to Life Improvement.
Should you feel tired, muscles aching, or sick, take a break and rest your body as there is always another day.

While many folks misunderstand the definition of #YOLO (You Only Live Once), it is not about exposing yourself to great risks and die young just because you happened to grab the shorter end of the stick. Living once means to live a fulfilling life without any regrets before you enter the coffin and fall into the grave.

Would you want to leave this world with full of regrets, not being able to do what you always wanted to do up till the end, just because you practiced the incorrect definition of #YOLO?

Live, fight, and survive for as long as you can without losing any limbs, breaking any bones, or tearing any ligaments! Retreating from a battle that you cannot win is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of wisdom that you will come back to fight the battle again with a stronger body and bigger weapons to vanquish your foes for sure.
